Hitting The Wall - What I Learned from a Family Facilitation
How we reset the conversation in our house and what you can do in your office
Whether we know it or not, there is a special date, an anniversary of sorts coming next week. Mid-March marks one year since the world as we knew it shut-down. This wasn't something I was specifically thinking of when we decided to have a family meeting.
Tensions were high, the kids sassy and messy, the parents short on patience and kindness and we all needed a reset. Over the span of two hours, we spoke really honestly to each other. We talked about what made us happy (going outside, special sibling sleepovers in the family room on weekends, hiking, our new home and the space it offered to spread out, wearing pajamas all day) and we talked about the things that did not make us happy (back talking, too much screen time, missing friends and family)
After listening to what each other had to say, we ended the session by making personal commitments to do and be better. They were specific to each person and volunteered by them. This meant it wasn't focused on punishment but on creating a stronger unit.
I'm sure my kids kinda rolled their eyes a bit at being facilitated by their mom, but in the end, you could feel a release from the room. I think this format would work great for your family or your office. Click here to download a sheet you can print out and use. At this point, we all need a reset.
